Description
This is a unique item, a Belgian Waffen-SS wooden box.
Please read the following with care: the box comes from a very old lifetime collection, but it is unclear how old it actually is and when it was made. When studying the wood and used materials it is clearly very old, but i can not guarantee it was made pre-1945. It is clearly a home made piece and could as well be made wartime OR postwar in the 1950’s or 1960’s as a piece of veterans art. I offer it here “as is” and as an interesting displaypiece. It is probably also the first time i ever offer a piece that is not clearly to be dated as wartime made, but in hand this looks so very well made and it is an interesting collectable that would fit very well in a World War 2 collection.
So what are we looking at? This is a wooden box with approximately sizes of 30 x 20 x 15 centimeters. The top lid can be shoved open.
On top is a painted image of a very famous Belgian wartime SS poster: “Ersatzkommando der Waffen SS. 44. Rue de la Loi Bruxelles“, it shows a Bolshevik dragon that is being crushed by SS runes. The symbolism is obvious. On one of the sides is an impression where as it seems at one time was attached a SS metal cap eagle and metallic SS runes. Again i can not tell if this is an original wartime veterans home made piece or a postwar made box. Whoever made it must have had some artistic skills as it is very well done. In all my years of collecting i have seen never before a piece like this.
