Description
This is an original Deutsches Kreuz in Gold (DKIG) by maker “20” (Carl Friedrich Zimmermann from Pforzheim).
Typical textbook light Zimmermann. The pin on the underside marked with “20”.
The weight is 45 grams.
In good only very light worn condition. The black enamel without chips, only some typical minor scratches from wearing. The gold wreath appears to have a dent from wearing too, but actually the cross is overal in good and desirable condition. Nice patination.
I see crosses with heavy enamel damage recently go up to over 2k, this one is so much better and is in this condition definately not easy to find anymore!
PLEASE NOTE: we bought this DKIG together with the Generalmajor Ernst König citation as a group (!), but since this is a light Zimmerman which does not correspond according to our research to the early date of the citation, we think the group MIGHT have been put together by former dealer Detlev Niemann in the past (there is also a COA by him that shows the DKIG with the citation, please see the offering of the König citation elsewhere on the website that includes the COA and more research). To avoid any confusion we decided to sell the cross and citation apart. It might be possible that Ernst König got this cross late war as a replacementcross, as he was 8 times wounded in battle and might have lost his original early DKIG. Stories are however stories, and we at Dutchmilitaria only sell original items and not stories that cant be hard proven. We realise many collectors like a background story to an item though, even if it can’t be proven like in this case, so you make up your own mind if you would like to buy both the cross and citation together or not. Of course both the cross and the citation are 100% originals!
