Description
Grouping Gefreiter Franz Obermaier / 1. Infanterie Regiment München / Zollbetriebsassistent (1942)
This is a very sad grouping of documents, from Gefreiter Obermaier. The group consists of a few personal dopcuments, but the most intense are the letters to his wife. In these letters is very detailed description of how Obermaier died. It is decribed that Obermaiers unit was stationed in Bol.-Wereika were they manned defensive positions. On the morning of 21 July 1942 the Russians attacked these positions and Obermaier was shot in the head and immediatly died. The russians then conquered these positions and it was not possible to safe the body from the enemy. After a few hourse the positions were conquered back, but all personal possessions of Obermaier were confiscated by the Russian enemy. Only what remained with the unit was sent back to his wife (Tornister and Rückengepäck). One can only imagine how this intense letter was recieved by his wife, it must have been devastatng to read.
The grouping contains:
- Obermaiers citation booklet for the DRL sportsbadge (complete with passphoto)
- Two large and one small deathcards
- A Freischwimmer Prufungs card
- Several letters regarding his death to his wife
Historically an interesting group, that very well shows the sadness of war.
All documents in good condition.
