This is a rare Iron Cross second class (EK2) Eisernes Kreuz variation, it is a rare variation of the maker 24 cross as it is double maker marked with “24” in the ring and “WR” on the suspension ring between the cross and the large ring.
In the collectorscommunity “24” crosses are known for their bad quality and often rusty cores, but the early pieces have a better core that is often still all back. The cross we offer here is most probably such an early piece. The real interesting variation here is however the double maker mark. 24 crosses are known to feature in rare instances an extra mark in the regular ring and (very rare!) sometimes even on the suspension ring. That is the case here! Clearly there is an extra WB mark on the small suspension ring. This stands for maker W. Behrens Schmuckwarenfabrik from Hanu, who was a part of the “24 Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Hanauer Plakettenhersteller”. This is a very hard to find variation!
In good condition!
If you want a rare marked cross for your Ek2 collection than this would be one to add!
