Description
This is a small papergroup of Knightscross with Oakleaves winner Generalmajor Ernst König, Kommandeur 28. Jäger-Division.
It contains:
- His Deutsches Kreuz in Gold (DKIG) citation
- 2 signed postwar photo’s
- A letter with letterhead from the Ordensgemeinschaft der Ritterkreuzträger + enveloppe
- A paper sheet that shows the career of König
- A certificate of Authentication from Detlev Nieman regarding the here offered DKIG citation and a DKIG (which we list elsewhere on the website)
- 15 pages of modern research into the background of König and why he earned the DKIG.
The citation is in good condition, one small tear at the left and very light cut on top. Overall i would rate it “good”.
A quite spectacular fully researched citation of a very high ranking DKIG winner!!!!

Ernst König war der Sohn des Polizeimeisters Max König. Er trat am 10. Mai 1927 als Polizei-Anwärter in die Polizeischule Hannover-Münden ein und wurde am 1. Oktober 1935 in die 3. / Infanterie-Regiment 15 in das Heer übernommen. 1935 heiratete er Martha Jakob. Als Oberfeldwebel kam er 1936 zum III. Bataillon vom Infanterie-Regiment 82, wo er Zugführer wurde. Am 10. Mai 1939 wurde er als aktiver Offizier zum Leutnant und Oberleutnant befördert. Als Chef der 1. Kompanie nahm er am Polenfeldzug teil, wurde anschließend zum Hauptmann befördert und nahm anschließend am Westfeldzug teil. Ab Juni 1941 kämpfte er in Rußland und übernahm hier nach kurzer Teil das III. Bataillon. Am 1. Februar 1942 zum Major befördert, wurde er am 7. März 1942 mit dem Deutschen Kreuz in Gold ausgezeichnet. Bei Kaluga verwundet, wurde er am 1. Dezember 1942 Kommandeur des I. / Grenadier-Regiment 82. Am 8. Juli 1943 wurde er Kommandeur des Grenadier-Regiment 12 und zeichnete sich mit diesem bei den schweren Abwehrkämpfen im Raum Ssewsk besonders aus, wofür ihm am 16. September 1943 das Ritterkreuz verliehen wurde. Am 1. Oktober 1943 wurde er zum Oberstleutnant befördert, am 1. April 1944 folgte die Beförderung zum Oberst. Beim Zusammenbruch der Heeresgruppe im Juni 1944 konnte er die Reste seines Regiment im hinhaltenden Widerstand nach Westen führen, wofür ihm am 21. September 1944 das Eichenlaub verliehen wurde. Ab dem 20. November 1944 führte er die 28. Jäger-Division und wurde am 30. Januar 1945 zum Generalmajor befördert. Am 21. März 1945 zum achten mal verwundet, erlebte er das Kriegsende im Lazarett. Er geriet in Gefangenschaft, aus der er am 1. September 1946 entlassen wurde.
PLEASE NOTE: we bought this original DKIG citation of Generalmajor Ernst König together with “his” DKIG as a group (!), but since the DKIG is a light Zimmerman which does not correspond according to our research to the early date of the citation, we think the group MIGHT have been put together by former dealer Detlev Niemann in the past. There is also a COA by him (which is sold here with the citation) that shows the DKIG with the citation, please also see the offering of the DKIG elsewhere on the website. To avoid any confusion we decided to sell the cross and citation apart. It might be possible that Ernst König got the DKIG cross late war as a replacementcross, as he was 8 times wounded in battle and might have lost his original early DKIG. Stories are however stories, and we at Dutchmilitaria only sell original items and not stories that cant be hard proven. We realise many collectors like a background story to an item though, even if it can’t be proven like in this case, so you make up your own mind if you would like to buy both the cross and citation together or not. Of course both the cross and the citation are 100% originals!
