Description
This is a Luftwaffe Honour Goblet (Ehrenpokal der Luftwaffe), which was awarded to Unteroffizier Hermann Kerschbaum on 2 december 1942.
In the bottom the pokal is maker marked with: “JOH.WAGNER & SOHN” and “FEINSILBER / ALPAKA / AUFLAGE”.
The pokal is overal in light used condition, there are some minor age spots from handling the pokal for decades, like small scratches and small dents. I tried to take many different pictures of the silver surface to show this and played a bit with different lights, hence the darker and lighter pictures to highlight the surface.
Overal this is a stunning piece with great nice equal spread patina. It is made of Alpaka (German Silver) and marked as such on the underside with: FEINSILBER ALPAKA AUFLAGE. Also the name of the producer of the Goblet is visible: Joh. Wagner & Sohn. The name of the recipient and date of awarding are engraved on the lower side, running all around the surface: Unteroffizier Hermann Kerschbaum on 2.12.42
Luftwaffe Honour Goblets are near impossible to find and im not aware of another for sale anywhere in the world at the moment. For sure many less were actually awared as they were awarded during the war on paper. This is one of the rarest to find Third Reich awards, especially for the Luftwaffe.
Unreasearched. Definatly a great original object for any museum or advanced collection!
