Description
This is an original half Erkennungsmarke of 2./SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt.48 G.S. (General Seyffardt), with unique Erkennungsmarkenumber -49-.
The Erkennungsmarked was worn by SS Rottenführer Georg Schuster. Schuster was a Volksdeutscher from Brenndorf in Rumania, where he as born on 5 May 1919. Brenndorf is the old German name for Bod, a historic commune in Brașov County, Transylvania, Romania.
Schuster went missing on July 28, 1944, during the retreat of the 4th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Brigade “Nederland” from the Estonian city of Narva. He was recorded as missing approximately 12 kilometers west of Narva, southwest of Lagna. The SS Brigade “Nederland” was composed to a significant extent of Romanian “Volksdeutsche” (ethnic Germans) like Schuster.
Schuster is not present in the lists of the Volksbund or listed as deceased in any (SS) archive. Either he managed after the poutbreak from Narwa to reach the german lines again, or (more likely) went into Russian captivity and survived the war.
Finding an orginal Generaal Seyffardt Erkennungsmarke is very rare, being able to identify it to it’s owner is EXTREMELY rare!!!!!
