Description

This is a typical NSB/Jeugdstorm “Karpoets” (Astrakan hat as worn by members of the Dutch Jeugdstorm).

It is in light worn condition, particularly visible by the small mothholes in the blue cloth underneath the metallic seamew. The mew is on the back missing one prong.

The best thing about the hat is that is named on the inside. The former owner sew in his/her name “A. Joling” during the war!!! This is only the very first named Karpoets i’ve seen in my life.

The orange on top (Oranje boven) was a typical Dutch patriotic thing. Later in the war when the NSB was not in favor anymore of the Dutch royl house, this changed into a dark blue top, but old style hats kept being worn too. My guess is that this was an old pre 1936 hat (from 1936 till may 1940 the Jeugdstorm was forbidden) that got worn again after 1940.

The hats are extremely rare to find. The oberal condition i’d rate typical “old”. Because of the mothholes priced accordingly and also very good. Try finding a cheaper one, that is if you can find one!
