Description

(Postcard) Mander s’ischt Zeit!” (Men, It’s Time!) (1938).

This is a rare (and terrible!) Propagandapostcard related to the”Anschluss” of Austria to Germany in 1938.
The slogan “Men it’s time” was a wellknown battlecall of the Tirolean freedomhero from the time of the resistance of the people in 1809 against th French and the Bavarians. Similar words spoke Austrian chancelor Kurt von Schuschnigg during a speech on 9. March 1938, to  call out the German lies, and show he stood for a free and independent Austria, for which he wanted to fight. After the by Germany military annexaion of Austria (the so called Anschluss), the Nationalsocialists stole this slogan, in an attempt to discredit politicians as Kurt von Schuschnigg (sown in the middle of the postcard with glasses), jewish people, Socialdemocrats and other opponents, in an attempt to fore them to leave or even imprison them (as happened to Schussnig). The idea (sic!) of the postcard was to make propaganda for the idea that only after all opponents were forcifully remoed, Austria could only become “free”.

Of course the idea and design of this postcard is terribly. We only sell this card to museums or serious (hobby) researchers for study or research purposes. We strongly emphasize that we distance ourself from any political idea”s of the past (and current times), that made it possible that such terrible events happened. We obtained a small collection of postcards and among them was this postcard. What happened in history is terrible, and we hope the world can only learn from it and from the remnants of the past. As such cards like this one are witnesses of the past that should be studied, so that history can NEVER repeat itself!

If any museum is interested we’d like to know, we’d like this card prefereably to be used for educational purposes.
