Description
This is a Prussian commemorative medal for the 1866 Königgratz battle between Prussia and Austria. It is thus a over 150 year old medal!
Made of melted captured canons of the Austrians, so that every veteran could always wear a piece of the defeated enemy with him.
On top is written “Treuen Kriegern”, meaning “Loyal warriors”. This particular variation of the Königgratz cross was for loyal soldiers who were part of troops that did not actually participate in the battle of Königgratz and also did not belong to the Main-Armee. It is as such a rare variation of the Königgratz cross that is not so often encountered.
Actual awarded original medal on it’s original (!) ribbon and mounted as a single parade bar for wearing. Original ribbons are very rare to find!
