This is a set with a Soldbuch + Arbeitsbuch from Unteroffizier: Karl Petersen. The Soldbuch is an “Ersatzausfertigung” (replacement booklet!) and shows that Petersen started at 2./I. E. Btl. 220. His civil occupation was that of “Bäcker” (baker). The Soldbuch shows a very nice photo of him in uniform and wearing a ribbonbar with Iron Cross and Ostmedal. Later Petersen would also earn the Iron Cross first class and Infanterie Sturmabzeichen. All four are written down in the soldbuch. Since the Soldbuch is a replacement soldbuch all medals were written down at once. For sure something tht could be researched more.
On 5 October 1943 Petersen became a part of Gen. Komp, Gren. Ersatz Bataillon 489 Oldenburg.
The history of 2./Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 220 (http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/InfErsBat/InfErsBat220-R.htm) shows it stayed at Denmark, while the history of Gren. Ersatz Bataillon 489 (http://www.balsi.de/Weltkrieg/Einheiten/Heer/Infanterie/Infanterie-Grenadier-Regimenter/489-IR-GR.htm) shows this assed the Schlesweg-Holstein (close to denmark) region in 1943, which explains how Petersen ended up in Gren. Ersatz Bataillon 489.
With the soldbuch comes his Arbeitsbuch, being a second type with large eagle on the front. It was started on 22. May 1937 in Schleswig and has many entries.
Both soldbuch and Arbeitsbuch are in very good condition!
A nice little set that should researched further. For sure the owner saw a lot of action.
