This is a so called “Spanische Fertigung” (Spanish production) of the Spanish Medalla de la División Azul (commemorative Blue Division Medal).
Collectors consensus tells that these medals were made for Spanish veterans (being former volunteers), of the wartime Spanish Blue Division, a unit of Spanish volunteers and conscripts who served in the German Army on the Eastern Front of the Second World War.
It is not exactly known when and by whom these medals were made, but it is obvious that these poorly made medals are post war made. While i can’t verify it the maker is thought to be one of the following: Egana, Diaz and “Casa Flandez group”. These three medal makers continued making Spanish medals for Spanish veterans after the war. This information comes from the Warrelics forum and i think it needs to be investigated further in the future. It is however interesting information and i think it should be mentioned here.
The here offered medal is in excellent condition for what it is and comes with the typical Spanish clasp on top of the ribbon.
Despite its crude appearance and post war production it’s a very rare medal to find that is missing from most collections!
