This is an original US WW2 82nd Airborne Division Flag. It was privat made directly after the war and judging the construction most probably in Germany directly after the war as a commemorative item.
The construction is superb, the flag consists of multiple layers of cloth and several kinds of bullion silver thread were used for the letters and lines. Surrounding the edges is blue trimming. The red cloth on the back is similar to that of German wartime armbands. The front is more wool-like.
In the centre is prominently pictured on it’s own field (thick and robust) the double AA Airborne logo. On top is written in thick letters:
82nd Airborne Division
On the left and right are in six sash like fields written the names of the battles the division fought in for the liberation of Europe:
- Central Europe
Very rare and a one of a kind item!
The size is 70 x 50 centimeters. On top are three loopholes that are now open (torn of?), indicating it was made to hang.
This could be an amazing backdrop in a diorama in a collecting room.
In very good condition. There are a few minor dirt spots and ome age damage but nothing disturbing and it is actually in as good condition as possible for it’s age. It appears to have always been stored well.
(ps: photoshop made the photo’s a very little more bright red).
